Daily Logs and Weekly Summaries for my Campus Kitchen Internship (Fall 2026)

This page will be dedicated toward tracking and recording the work and experience gained during my Campus Kitchen internship.

Week One

Daily Log (Thursday: 8/20/2026)

Today (Thursday: 8/20/2026), I set up the Microsoft Form that will be used to collect shift data, including which volunteers attended, how much food was donated/collected, whether any deliveries were missed, and whether any items were low in stock. I also added a section called Shift Leader Spotlight, which allows those completing the form to recognize a Shift Leader who stood out and positively impacted the shift.

A two hour meeting was also arranged for the Campus Kitchen team to discuss the duties that need to be assigned for the Shift Leader training event on the 22nd. I was assigned to arrange snacks for the event and present the Microsoft Form to the trainees, including an explanation of how they will use it to log their Campus Kitchen shifts and how the collected information will be used to track relevant data.

A PowerPoint presentation was also sent to the Campus Kitchen team to introduce the Shift Leader trainees to our team, explain the importance of Campus Kitchen, and provide an overview of their responsibilities. I added the Microsoft Form to the presentation so that trainees can easily access it when completing their shifts.

Daily Log: (Saturday: 8/22/2026)

Today (Saturday: 8/22/2026) I arrived at UGArden to help set up for the Campus Kitchen team to give a presentation to shift leaders on what Campus Kitchen is, why their volunteer work matters, and how they will log their shift completion form.

During the presentation I introduced myself and explained how they would complete the form. I made sure that all shift leaders could access the link and resolved any issues and questions they had completing it. After, I then helped judge smoothies the shift leaders made as part of an engagement activity and then helped with cleaning up. I also helped the team give a tour for shift leaders who had signed up for cooking shifts. The tour included where to meet for the shift as well as where items would be and basic rules. In total the event lasted from 9:00am-2:00pm.

Daily Log: (Sunday: 8/23/2026)

Today (Sunday: 8/23/2026) the responses from the Shift Leader completion form were collected and compiled by me. The responses were added to a separate form by me and the information was summarized for my internship site preceptor. The summarized information was emailed to my site preceptor to see my work and to use the data in tracking the work done by shift leaders and employees. The data from the form is important as it is used to show quantitative evidence of the work Campus Kitchen performs which helps the organization obtain funding.

Summary of Week 1 Matched with Competencies

  • Area VI: Communication
    • 6.1.3 Identify communication channels (e.g., social media and mass media) available to and used by the audience(s).
    •  6.3.3 Tailor message(s) for the audience(s).
    • 6.5.2 Use public speaking skills.
    • 6.5.5 Deliver oral and written communication that aligns with professional standards of grammar, punctuation, and style.

(PowerPoint with link to Shift Leader Completion form, Censored)

Summary: By engaging in these competencies I have set up a form that can be accessed by all shift leaders to log their volunteer work with Campus Kitchen. When setting up the form I had mild difficulty in understanding what kind of information would be important for the Campus Kitchen staff to know. To get a better understanding I communicated well with my peers and preceptor to understand any issues with the existing form or types of questions to avoid creating. I copied the existing form and then altered it to fit the changes I wanted to implement. The changes included making all numerical questions number only so that responses would not include units of measurement or words which would make analytics harder. A required question asking for the name was also requested due to the Microsoft Form not reliably extracting responders names in case the Microsoft Form did not link with the UGA email. Overall the form was tailored to the ones who will respond. The form was kept short and acronyms and lingo were explained so that the average person would not be confused. This has helped me not only get more experience with public speaking but has also given me insight in how the data will be collected by me. Once more responses are collected from the shifts I will have a better understanding of any changes I should make and I can begin tracking the data.

Area III: Implementation

  •  3.1.5 Train staff and volunteers to ensure fidelity.

I have trained the Shift Leader volunteers during the oral presentation on how to use the shift completion form during an oral presentation. In the next few weeks I will see if there were any misunderstandings in how to record their work and if so the questions will be changed for further clarity or an email will be sent to provide an explanation.

Reflection of Week 1:

This past week I am excited to have more tasks to perform. I enjoy the work that Campus Kitchen does and after receiving training from my preceptor I have an even deeper understanding towards the importance of the work and how it helps feed families who rely on the program. I have learned that over 140,000 meals have been made by Campus Kitchen to be delivered to elderly individuals and families who have difficulty cooking for themselves. Understanding how the data I will be collecting will help the organization obtain more funding and positively impact these families is a great motivator in my tasks. In the following week I will help with Shift Leader tasks such as cooking, bag packing, client deliveries, and missed deliveries. By performing these tasks I hope I can get an even further understanding of the program and how I can help impact the clients. These tasks will also help me further understand if there is anything that should be changed in the Shift Leader completion form.

I am also interested in seeing how my form is used by the Shift Leaders and once I collect more data I will be able to perform a deeper dive into it. As of now there have only been two responses as the first shift was not popular for students during the first week of school.

Week Two

Daily Log: (8/25/2026)

Today (8/25/2026) I had a meeting with my preceptor to evaluate if I had any issues with the Microsoft form and if I should make any changes. We decided on adding questions to the form for Shift Leaders to be able to select what store they collected food from. Another question was also discussed to be added to the food collection questions. The question would ask responders to confirm they had recorded the weight in Meal Connect.

I also performed my first shift for client deliveries. I was tasked with delivering food for route 4 which included 6 clients. I was able to deliver all the meals but I did have some difficulty locating all the houses as some of the houses were located in strange areas or did not have an easily identifiable house number.

When I got home I also began applying the changes to the Microsoft Form. I added the section for Shift Leaders to confirm that they had recorded the weight of food collected in Meal Connect. I also added a section for the Bagel shift and the food collection shifts to select where they had collected the food. The options were: Trader Joe’s, Earth Fare, Einstein’s Bros Bagels, and other. The other selection was made as a free response answer.

Daily Log: (8/26/2026)

Today (8/26/2026), I had my first Food Processing and Bag Packing shift. I did not have much of a leadership role this time because this was primarily a training shift for me. I learned where all of the items are located, where to put the bags and food, and how the UGArden barn operates. I also helped process tea leaves by stripping the leaves from the stems. The shift lasted from 1:20 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

I also sent out the Shift Leader Form summary from the 25th. I am making sure to send the summary the following day because some Shift Leaders are slow to complete the form, and I am receiving some responses as late as the next day. The summary included information about who did not arrive for their shift, as well as comments from Shift Leaders that needed to be addressed.

My preceptor also discussed with me the possibility of tracking the hours of students in Dr. Hein’s class. I told her that I could track the hours by using an Excel formula to track recurring names. We also discussed creating a form containing all of the Shift Leaders’ names and information so that I can track their hours as well.

In the Excel sheet, I also linked the quantitative summary (weight of food donated, number of meals made, etc.) to the Shift Leader completion form. This means that as long as the form is opened in Excel, the summary will automatically update. Once I receive the Shift Leader information list from my preceptor, I will finish setting up the system for tracking their hours. Tonight I went ahead and set up the tracking for the volunteer hours instead because I do not need to wait for a list. It was difficult because some of the responses did not include commas between names, added extra spaces, and I am not sure if some of them are first names only. I created a formula in Excel that copied over all the responses from the volunteer names column. I then pasted them as values only and added commas between the names. I then used a formula to count how many times a person’s name appears and count how many shifts they have attended. This should work as well for all future responses but I will monitor tomorrow’s responses to see if any issues arise. To reduce the times I will have to manually add commas I have changed the question in Microsoft Forms to ask respondents to include full names and to add commas between individual names. I spent 4 hours in excel today.

Daily Log: (8/27/2026)

Today (8/27/2026) I did the cooking shift for Campus Kitchen as a Shift Leader. There were two volunteers who joined us to cook 56 meals. The meals included white rice, butternut squash, BBQ chicken, and okara. I was tasked with cooking rice, cutting okara, washing dishes, helping package the meals, and taking the meals in my car to the two homeless shelters. In the future I will be responsible for delivering the meals on the Thursday cooking shifts to the shelters. In total it took over 2 hours to cook and deliver the meals.

After dropping off the meals I delivered the missed client deliveries. Two out of three of the meals I wasn’t able to deliver to the clients. One client had a disconnected phone number and it looked like the home was no longer occupied. I relayed this information to my preceptor and a plan was discussed to move forward regarding the particular client. After arriving back from the missed deliveries shift I met with the other Shift Leader who I will be working with and discussed how I will relay information to her as we will be splitting the number of missed deliveries.

I also went through the Shift Leader Completion Form in Excel and went through yesterday’s responses. I sent information regarding Shift Leaders who may not have arrived to their shifts, clients who were unable to be contacted, issues that arose during shifts, as well as questions that responders had.

(Image depicts the food prepared for the homeless shelters that Campus Kitchen works with.)

Daily Log: (8/28/2026)

Today (8/28/2026) I completed the weekly SLCF (Shift Leader Completion Form) summary. The summary included quantitative data such as how many meals were made, how many pounds of food was collected, and how many meals were delivered to clients. The summary also included who had arrived to their shifts and issues that had arisen throughout the week. One Shift Leader mentioned on the form that they were a little confused if the form was the correct one for them to fill out. I included this in my report so that an email may be sent out to shift leaders to make sure they understand that everyone fills out the same form. My summary also included issues with clients such as that a different size diaper was needed for one of the clients as well as difficulties contacting two of them.

A difficulty I faced was that I had a lot of issues verifying if someone had missed their shift or not. I have no list for the changes to the weekly schedule and I used the weekly email that was sent out to Shift Leaders to inform them of where and when their shift was. I have no idea how many changes were made to the list but if true then about seven Shift Leaders did not attend their shifts earlier this week.

Summary of Week Two Matched with Competencies

Area III: Implementation

3.2.4 Deliver health education and promotion as designed.

This week I continued refining the Shift Leader Completion Form based on feedback. My preceptor and I met to review issues with the form and two new questions were discussed: one for Shift Leaders to select which store the food was collected from, and one to confirm the food weight had been recorded in Meal Connect. I also built an Excel formula that automatically links quantitative data (meals made, pounds of food collected, etc) to the from responses. I also set up a formula to track volunteer hours by counting names from the volunteer name section of responses. This proved to be difficult because the responses were so inconsistent. The responses included missing commas, extra spaces, and potentially first name only responses. I manually cleaned up the data by setting up the volunteer name responses to automatically go into another column and then making a column that has values only. That column was altered by me so that I could add commas and fix any other issues which were used to count the individual volunteer names. I then adjusted the form in an attempt to reduce these issues going forward.

Throughout the week I also worked three different shifts this week hands on. I worked client deliveries, food processing/bag packing, and cooking. During the cooking shift I helped prepare 56 meals and delivered them to two homeless shelters. I also picked up missed client deliveries and drove to their homes to try and deliver them. I was unable to deliver two of these deliveries as one was not home and the other had a disconnected phone number and an unoccupied home. This information was relayed to my preceptor. Performing these roles is greatly helping me understand what I should or shouldn’t ask in the Shift Leader Completion Form.

Communication

  • 6.5.5 Deliver oral and written communication that aligns with professional standards of grammar, punctuation, and style.
  •  4.5.1 Communicate findings by preparing reports, and presentations, and by other means

Almost everyday this week I have reviewed the previous day’s Shift Leader Completion Form responses and sent my preceptor a summary covering who showed up, client issues (client needing different diaper sizes and difficulty contacting a client), as well as comments or questions submitted through the form by Shift Leaders. On Friday this was compiled into a weekly summary that included quantitative totals including meals made, pounds of food collected, how many meals delivered, along with key information from the week. An issue I ran into was verifying if someone had actually missed their shift. I don’t have a master list telling me any changes made throughout the week so I rely on the weekly email sent out to Shift Leaders that tells them when and where their shift is. It looks like a handful of Shift Leaders missed their shift but I am unable to truly verify without a more reliable source. Writing these summaries instead of weekly is helping me catch any problems that arise and the issues can be resolved rather quickly instead of waiting until the weekly summary.

Reflection of Week 2

This week the form and the fieldwork helped me get a good idea of what issues were arising and what could be fixed. Working the cooking, bag packing, and delivery shifts gave me insight into issues shift leader face and help me get insight into changes that should be made to the form instead of guesswork. Building the Excel tracking formula was a bigger task than expected. Cleaning the inconsistent name entries taught me how important it is to make the wording as clear as possible and I will apply this to future designs and methods. Next week I want to finish the Shift Leader hour tracking once my preceptor sends me the list of their names and information. I also want to track whether any of the changes to the form questions reduce the confusion or entry issues.

Week Three

Daily Log: (8/30/2026)

Today (8/30/2026) I spent an hour going over responses and monitoring if there were any issues regarding the way that responses were being filled out. I noticed that there were quite a few responses that had only the first name of volunteers. Thankfully after having previously altered the form there were less responses with no commas. Hopefully the changes I made earlier will save me more time and effort in the future so that I do not have to manually add commas.

I also applied the changes I discussed with my receptor such as adding a confirmation question for logging information into Meal Connect and adding a section for food collectors to log what location they had collected the food from. Previously I had made a test form for my preceptor to look at before I applied the change to the active form.

Daily Log: 8/31/2026

Today (8/31/2026) an hour-long team meeting was set up at the Office of Service Learning on UGA campus. The meeting talked about our expectations going into the semester, key points throughout the week, as well as any issues that needed to be resolved. I thought the meeting was good in keeping everyone in the loop and we discussed what to do for a client who is turning 100. We signed a birthday card for her and we are planning on delivering it to her along with her food.

I also sent out the Sunday SLCF summary and informed my preceptor of items that were low, absences, as well as deliveries that were missed. We still have not been able to contact two of the clients for a week and efforts will be arranged to confirm if Campus Kitchen is no longer needed at their address.

Time was also spent on the Excel sheet to track students who require hours at Campus Kitchen, Shift Leader tracking, as well as overall volunteer tracking. I completely redid the work I had done previously for tracking all volunteers because it looked ugly and was not as automated as I would have liked. I made massive progress in tracking the volunteers and I have it set up so that the responses are automatically pulled from the SLCF and a column is provided for if I need to add commas or last names to the list of volunteers submitted as a response. The Excel Sheet will automatically identify individual names and track repeating volunteers and how many shifts they have completed. This is done to see how often some volunteers work with Campus Kitchen and may be used to offer them a Shift Leader role. The sheet to track student hours was also completed and I am happy with the results. The sheet to track Shift Leaders was also worked on but not finished. I am unsure how happy I am with the current state of the Shift Leader tracking sheet and I will likely work on it throughout the week.

Daily Log: 9/1/2026

Today (9/1/2026) I worked on the Shift Leader tracking form for about three hours. It looks much better than it used to but I will still likely make further changes to see if there is a better and cleaner way to track the Shift Leaders. After making these changes I had an online meeting with my preceptor where I showed her the changes I have made to the Excel file. We discussed how the formulas work and I showed her how the Excel workbook is used such as how the drop down filters automatically change the totals in the summary page. We also discussed me taking on meal planning shifts as well as potentially delivering a birthday card to one of our clients who is turning 100. After the meeting I went ahead and sent in the SLCF summary where I informed my preceptor of missed client deliveries, who had not arrived to their shifts, and what items were low.

After, I drove to UGArden and spent two hours delivering meals to elderly clients. This week I had a much easier time locating the homes as I am consistently on route 4. I have to remind myself to stay at the front door for several minutes and knock loud to make sure the clients can hear me knocking and have time to physically open the door.

Because my preceptor mentioned that someone was likely using an older version of the SLCF I reached out to one of our shift leaders and sent her the correct link and told her to log yesterday’s shift into it. I also sent out a post on Teams to make sure that everyone had the correct link and also asked Shift Leaders to make sure they included last names or last initials when submitting names of Shift Leaders present because we have two people with the same name.

Daily Log: 9/2/2026

Today (9/2/2026) I spent about two hours working as a Shift Leader for the bag packing shift. We had two out of three volunteers arrive to help us pack the meals for clients. We gave the clients, bagels, peppers, okara, eggplant, and an assortment of snacks along with their cooked meals. I am still learning the backpacking shift and this week I learned more about where the food and items are located in the barn. I helped organize the freezer and helped walk the volunteers through the process. I am hoping to learn as much as I can about this shift so that I can take on more of a leadership role regarding this particular shift. The SLCF daily summary was also performed by me and we thankfully had all shift leaders arrive to their shift yesterday and no missed deliveries.

Daily Log: 9/3/2026

Today (9/3/2026) I spent about an hour in the morning looking at results from the SLCF and sending the main points to the Campus Kitchen Team. When looking over some of the responses I realized several people did not log their shifts. I emailed them and made sure they had the correct link. They all finished filling out the SLCF.

I spent two hours cooking with volunteers to make eighty meals for homeless shelters. Today we used leftover barberitos and cooked tofu and extra meat to fill more of the tortillas. We also made toppings of diced jalapenos, pico de gallo, black beans, an avocado creme, and cheese. Fifty of the meals were tacos and thirty of the meals were nachos. This week we had the same volunteers from the last cooking shift and one new volunteer. After cooking and packaging the meals I drove the meals to the two homeless shelters Campus Kitchen works with and dropped off the meals. One of the homeless shelters we work with I was informed will be closing in the middle of September. We have agreed that we will continue bringing meals until the last day.

After delivering the meals I went to UGArden and delivered two missed meals for clients. Today I made sure the bags had everything in it and delivered the meals with no supervision. During my route I also made sure to ask clients if we had their correct diaper size. After delivering the missed meals I waited for our shift leader to show up because this would be the first time she has delivered any meals and I wanted to make sure she felt comfortable and I could help her make sure the bag was packed before she left.

When she arrived I showed her where everything is, and how the missed deliveries system worked. When I saw that the other delivery was one of your clients we were unable to contact all of last week I decided to ride with her to the house. As we rode to the house she asked me questions about delivering to make sure she understood how it worked. Once we arrived we thankfully were able to contact the resident and deliver the food.

Daily Log: 9/4/2026

Today (9/4/2026) I got back to my preceptor and informed her how I did receive all the missed responses from the last shift. I also compiled a weekly summary of key information such as total weight of food collected, how many meals donated, as well as any issues reported from Shift Leaders and information from clients. I then contacted another member of the team and sent her the totals so far on all the metrics because she wants to make a post about the work that Campus Kitchen has done.

Summary of Week Three Matched with Competencies

Area III: Implementation

3.1.5 Train staff and volunteers to ensure fidelity.

3.2.4 Deliver health education and promotion as designed.

This week I focused on making the SLCF data collection cleaner and easier to read as well as building the full volunteer tracking system in Excel. I have a sheet that logs every volunteer as well as a sheet that more closely tracks the students who require the hours for a class. I finalized these changes with my preceptor as well as the changes I made to the SLCF regarding Meal Connect confirmation and food collection location. I tested the form and noticed that several entries were coming in as first name only entries. The changes I made however greatly improved any issues this would cause and the post I made in Teams seems to have greatly reduced the number of Ellas that have been filling out the form with only their first name (there are several Shift Leaders named Ella). I completely rebuilt the volunteer tracking system to instead pull responses automatically from the form and individual names are still tracked from messy entries. Repeated volunteers are also tracked if their full name appears on the volunteer question entry. The Shift Leader tracking sheet is not at a place I am content with and I will continue making further changes. When my preceptor and I met earlier this week I showed her how the formulas work as well as the dropdown filters. I also was informed of an issue of some of the Shift Leaders using an outdated link. To correct this I emailed her with the correct link and also made a post in teams to make sure everyone had the correct one, as well as making sure people with common names include their last name or last initial as well. Now that the tracking system is mostly built I would like to focus next week on refining some of the systems and maybe flag volunteers who have volunteered over a certain number of times.

Area VI: Communication & Area IV: Evaluation and Research

6.5.5 Deliver oral and written communication that aligns with professional standards of grammar, punctuation, and style.

4.5.1 Communicate findings by preparing reports, presentations, and by other means.

I continued the daily SLCF summaries to my preceptor, reporting low inventory, absences, and missed deliveries. I also sent a full weekly summary covering total food weight collected, meals donated, and any shift leader or client issues. I also attended a team meeting at the Office of Service Learning where we discussed expectations for the semester and coordinated a birthday card delivery for a client who is turning 100. I will be in charge of delivering the card on Thursday. When I noticed multiple shift leaders hadn’t logged their shifts, I emailed them directly and confirmed they had completed the form afterwards. I also shared cumulative metrics with another team member who is preparing a post about Campus Kitchen’s impact. Going forward I would like to communicate even more with the team to keep up to date on what is happening in Campus Kitchen to stay on top pf small communication issues to keep the data reliable.

Area III: Implementation

3.3.5 Train staff and volunteers to ensure fidelity.

I worked cooking, bag backing, and delivery shifts throughout the week, including cooking eighty meals for two homeless shelters and delivering to clients on route four and any deliveries missed on any route. I also trained a new shift leader on her first delivery shift, walking her through how the bags are prepared and how missed deliveries work. I then rode with her on her first delivery which was a client we had not been able to contact in over a week. We were able to contact her and deliver the food. I then made sure she knew how to fill out the SLCF. Hands-on work and mentoring like this helps me get a general idea if the SLCF makes sense to someone using it for the first time and helps me understand what issues the Shift Leaders may be facing.

Reflection of Week Three

This week I turned the systems I made into mostly automatic systems that can work well in daily use. I am happy with the work I have done in rebuilding the volunteer tracking sheet but I am also frustrated that in all this work and hours put into it, I can still do it better. The form that tracks students that need the hours for a class however are in a spot that I am very happy with. I really enjoyed riding along with our new shift leader and helping teach her how to perform her shift. I would enjoy taking on even more of a leadership role in the future for the delivery shifts. It also reminded me how important it is to keep trying to contact clients even if you think they may not answer. Next week I would like to create a finalized version of the SLCF Excel tracking system.

Week Four

Daily Log 9/8/2026

Today (9/8/2026) I met a member of the Campus Kitchen team at the Office of Service Learning where we collected materials for tabling outside of Tate. When we arrived at Tate we set up our table with a poster as well as with a box of cookies, gummies, and some flyers with a QR code that was a link to the Campus Kitchen Give Pulse page. The tabling went great and although we didn’t have a table that had a lot of foot traffic we still had a good number of visitors and a few of them signed up to be volunteers. The tabling went on from 9:45-12:00. We unfortunately forgot to take pictures of the table for our other team member who is in charge of the Campus Kitchen social media accounts. In the future I will remember to take photos of the table at future tabling events.

After tabling we went to the UGArden barn to do the food processing and backpacking for clients. We packed 26 bags because we needed to pack the bags that would have typically been packed on Monday. Due to the Labor Day holliday we needed to catch up. The bag packing lasted from 1:00 to 2:00. After that I then delivered my clients bags and meals for which included more food than usual because the Labor Day holliday resulted in the freezer becoming too full to hold anymore food. My deliveries lasted from 2:00 to 4:00 and I have started making a connection to one of the older women I deliver to. She is homebound due to physical disability and hearing her talk about how she is unable to travel anywhere without her daughter’s help really gives me insight into some of the challenges some of my clients face.

Daily Log 9/9/2026

Today (9/9/2026) I arrived for my bag packing shift which lasted from 1:20 to 3:30. Today we had a new volunteer which was great and I did my best to help her feel included with the other experienced volunteers. We had a lot of fruit donated this week and we made sure to give some extra fruit to the clients who were unable to refrigerate their food or were on restrictive diets that allowed fruit. I also processed two boxes of bananas that were donated. I peeled the bananas and put them in zip lock bags to freeze them so they would not go bad before they are used. We unfortunately still have one more box of bananas. We don’t have enough freezer space to store them. We have tried giving them to a homeless shelter however they didn’t want them. I am seeing now how much goes into storing all the food that is donated and how even though Campus Kitchen prioritizes reducing food waste it doesn’t mean that all food can be donated.

I also continued performing my task of submitted daily SLCF summaries. I am missing two responses and I have emailed the shift leaders to let them know that I do not have their responses. I also have to figure out if there is a way to delete a specific response because someone submitted their response with an incorrect date and then submitted another response. This may make metrics confusing in the future as it now says we have donated 800 more pounds than we really have. If I am unable to delete the response in Microsoft Forms I will have to make a note to remind myself to remove that particular response when counting metrics.

Daily Log 9/10/2026

Today (9/10/2026) I started out by cooking at the Covenant Presbyterian Church and cooked 100 meals. We made BBQ chicken, rice, and vegetables. Although we had no volunteers today the shift went by fairly smoothly and we did not need extra time to finish cooking. I then delivered the meals to the two homeless shelters Campus Kitchen works with. I then went and delivered a meal along with a balloon, flowers, and a birthday card for a client who is turning 100. I talked with her a little bit about her experiences with Campus Kitchen and we had a photo with her.

I then carried on with my task of sending out daily SLCF summaries to my preceptor. I still have not figured out how to remove the duplicate response. I may create a fake Microsoft Forms questionnaire to experiment with ways to delete an incorrect response permanently without jeopardizing all other responses.

Daily Log (9/11/2026)

Today (9/11/2026) I went to Our Daily Bread and helped prepare food in a food trailer for unhoused people in the area experiencing food insecurity. We had bottled water, chili, and cornbread. I was in charge of cutting up the vegetables and then taking the perishable ingredients and used utensils back to UGArden. I was very excited to be part of the trailer event and I enjoyed it a lot. I’m hoping that I have another chance to help with trailering. When back at UGArden I also performed my barn chores and then attended an Office of Service Learning event at 3:30 that lasted for an hour.

Summary of Week 4 Matched with Competencies

Area III: Implementation

3.1.5 Train staff and volunteers to ensure fidelity.

3.2.4 Deliver health education and promotion as designed

3.3.5 Monitor use of resources

This week I ran a tabling event outside of Tate on UGA campus to recruit new volunteers for Campus Kitchen. Our table had flyers, snacks, and a poster informing students about what Campus Kitchen is and the type of volunteer shifts. The flyer had a QR code that linked to the Campus Kitchen GivePulse page for volunteers to select a shift they would like to volunteer at. The event lasted from 9:45- 12:00 with a few visitors signing up for shifts. Unfortunately we forgot to photograph the event which is something I will make sure to remember at the next tabling event.

Due to the changes in schedule caused by Labor Day I and another Campus Kitchen team member packed 26 bags during the bag packing and processing shift to catch up. There was also too much food inside the freezers so an extra meal was given to clients to free up space. I also processed two boxes of bananas by peeling and freezing them to prevent spoilage. I unfortunately ran out of space for the third box and learned that a shelter wouldn’t take them either. Although frustrating it reminded me how much planning there is regarding food storage and that not all food will end up donated. The bananas instead will likely be composted for UGArden.

Area IV: Evaluation and Research

4.5.1 Communicate findings by preparing reports, presentations, and by other means.

I continued sending daily SLCF summaries to my preceptor throughout the week. I also ran into a data quality issue that unfortunately is still unresolved. A response has been sent twice by a respondee that is heavily skewing data and was submitted for a week in the future. I am unsure how to safely delete the incorrect response without risking other responses. I am planning to build a test Microsoft Form to experiment with ways to do this before touching the important data. This is teaching me how to maintain datasets and the limitations of Microsoft Forms. Once I find a safe method I will document the steps for future use.

Reflection of Week 4

This week I was able to experience and help with new tasks for Campus Kitchen such as tabling, banana processing, birthday delivery, and a trailering event. The moment that had the most impact for me was meeting and talking with our 100 year old client for her birthday. The conversation was a reminder that the work Campus Kitchen does means a lot to some of our clients and has real impact. The banana issue wasn’t a major problem but still taught me that although Campus Kitchen’s mission is to “reduce food waste” doesn’t mean all fresh food will actually be delivered to people. I also want to become better at taking initiative for things I think may be helpful or needed such as taking tabling photos and contacting Shift Leaders about SLCF issues. I would also like to have another trailering shift if possible.

Week Five

On Monday (9/14/26) I attended an hour long meeting with my preceptor as well as other Campus Kitchen interns at the Office of Service Learning. During the meeting we discussed future dates and planes such as Turkeypalooza. We also discussed switching a client to Wednesday or Thursday delivery times because they always miss their delivery date. I also sent out the Sunday Daily SLCF Summary and the weekly SLCF Summary from last week.

On Tuesday (9/15/2026), I met with my preceptor via zoom for our weekly meetings. I showed her the forms and how I was tracking everything and that I wasn’t having any issues tracking volunteers. I did discuss with her the issue of some Shift Leaders putting in very incorrect dates than they should. I also mentioned some Shift Leaders trying to finish the form so fast they redo it causing duplicate responses. I also was given the Sheets form with the updated shift schedule and the Shift Leaders contact info. I am now in charge of contacting anyone who forgot to fill out their form. I also continued to perform my duty of sending out daily SLCF form summary and sent out the one for Monday. I also went to UGArden to deliver the meals to clients for my route.

On Wednesday (9/16/2026) I went to UGArden and performed bag packing as a shift leader. This time I and another Shift Leader were given more of a leadership role as practice for when Anna the Campus Kitchen faculty will not supervise us. We had three volunteers with us for this shift and I made sure to make them feel more included and had designated roles. I also performed the daily SLCF summary for Tuesday.

On Thursday (9/17/2026) I went to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Athens and cooked food with Anna from Campus Kitchen. We had two volunteers who had volunteered with us before and it felt great to have repeated volunteers. We made a pasta salad with zucchini, squash, and chicken to make 80 meals. When delivering the meals however I was unable to deliver to one of the unhoused care centers I deliver to so I returned to Bigger Vision and gave them the rest of the meals. After delivering the meals I went to UGArden to deliver any missed deliveries from the week. There were four meals in total to be delivered and I took the two with the more complicated instructions. I also packed the yogurt for the other two meals and I checked the missed deliveries binder for the client pages so that the new Shift Leader won’t have any issues. I was unable to find the client page for one of her clients so I pulled the address from the bag packing table and made sure she knew where to deliver the meals.

On Friday (9/18/26) I continued my Shift Leader Completion form summary duties. I combed through the metrics and reported the important information to my preceptor. One of our clients would like to get in contact with my preceptor and the other would like UGA themed products to decorate her son’s room who had a stroke. I have reported this information in my daily SLCF summary email.

Summary of Week 5

This week I attended two meeting with my preceptor. On Monday I attended a physical meeting at the Office of Service Learning with the other members of the Campus Kitchen Team. We discussed changing two of our client’s delivery days because they often miss their Wednesday deliveries. For my remote Tuesday meeting I discussed any issues I was experiencing with the Shift Leader Completion Forms. I am now in charge of contacting Shift Leaders about questions or if they have missed their shift. I have also kept up with my daily Shift Leader Completion Form summaries. I also attended my Shift Leader Captain shifts were I delivered food, bagpacked meals, processed food, cooked meals, and delivered meals to unhoused care centers.

Week Six

On Sunday (9/20/26) I performed my daily Shift Leader summary for Sunday and reported on a shift that was still missing. I also reported the weekly summary and reported the many issues that were being reported about the scale. Several reports have mentioned that the scale is not weighing food correctly, only sometimes works, and is missing a leg. My preceptor has mentioned going to see what is wrong with the scale and maybe replacing the batteries.

On Monday (9/21/26) I continued with my Shift Leader Completion form duties and reporting my daily summary. I also spent several hours cleaning up the data as I have now figured out how to safely delete incorrect responses and how to fix them in an easy and clean manor. I have also begun to fix my Excel formulas and charts to accommodate for the changes I have made.

On Tuesday (9/22/26) I continued sending a daily summary from the Shift Leader Completion Form. I also contacted Shift Leaders who had not filled out the form to make sure they would fill it out so that we would have the correct metrics. I also completed my client delivery shift and I relayed to my preceptor that one of the clients had a family member that recently passed away. I am discussing with the team if we can have a card that is signed by Campus Kitchen that can be delivered. Another client would like to get in contact with Jules and I made sure that the information was relayed to her.

On Wednesday (9/23/26) I continued sending out the daily SLCF summaries and contacting anyone who had a missed response. Unfortunately the one person who did not answer was covering for the typical Shift Leader for that client delivery route. I may contact the person who is assigned the shift and see if they can tell me who covered the shift for them to have them complete the form. I also was the Shift Captain for the bag packing and food processing shift with the two other Shift Leaders. This time I was the only one in charge and I worked with the other shift leaders to greet the volunteers and designate them roles. It was a bit overwhelming this time because we had a hard time finding some of the items but we found out that the bag packing board wasn’t updated. Overall we completed the shift but it could have gone smoother.

On Thursday (9/24/26) I continued with my daily summary from the Shift Leader Completion Form. I now have the responses that were missing from Wednesday and several items were reported low. I relayed this information to my preceptor. I also cooked 80 meals for the unhoused care shelters at the Covenant Church in Athens. This time my preceptor was not there to help but Anna who works at Campus Kitchen was there to help. We also had no volunteers this week so we had to work fast. I was in charge of cutting the vegetables while Anna cut the meat. I managed to deliver the meals but next time I need to work on being faster.

Summary of Week 6

This week I continued performing my daily Shift Leader Completion Form responses. Information such as low items and I also fixed some major issues with the metrics form and the way to tally up metrics and count shifts. I also contacted Shift Leaders who were late to submit their responses.

I also performed my weekly Shift Captain tasks. I delivered my client deliveries on Tuesday, bag packing and food processing on Wednesday, and cooking, shelter delivery, and my missed deliveries shift, on Thursday.

Week Seven

On (9/28/26) I submitted the SLCF summary for Sunday as well as the weekly summary from last week. Unfortunately I felt unwell and had to skip the Campus Kitchen biweekly summary and instead went to urgent care. I have informed my preceptor that I will likely not be able to perform my Tuesday duties. This set back altered many of my plans I wished to discuss during the meeting but has also taught me that communicating my limitations is also important.

Week Eight

On (10/4/26) I worked on the weekly summary. There are two responses that did not log the weight for the food collected and donated. I have reached out to them and Jules to try and figure out the correct weight. The reason one of the shifts did not log the weight is because there is continued difficulty with the scale. For the past few weeks people have been complaining that the scale doesn’t work. I have relayed this information to my preceptor. There have also been issues with some of the later shifts not closing the container doors before leaving. Jules has added a question to the SLCF for people to verify that they have closed all doors. She would like me to change the SLCF to that only late evening shifts are asked. When she sends me the information of what shifts she would like for me to do this for I will go ahead and change it.

On (10/5/26) I performed my daily SLCF summary and one of the shifts were not logged. I reached out to the shift leader for them to complete the form and they did so later that day. Once the response was sent I compiled the information and sent it to my preceptor. I later went to UGArden and delivered meals to clients on route 4. I was able to deliver all but one meal. I also was able to track down some of the tags that went missing last week and brought them back to UGArden.

On (10/6/2026) I was in charge of the Wednesday bagpacking shift. We had about five volunteers who had signed up to help and I made sure that everyone had a role when making the bags for clients. I also made sure that the bags were packed correctly. Some client have dietary restriction that required me to double check their bags to make sure the volunteers followed the directions on the tags. I also had the volunteers perform some simple barn chores like sweeping, washing bins, and cleaning the tables. After, we all went to help UGArden weed out a section for their lettuce. Because Campus Kitchen works with UGArden, so much of the food we donate to families comes from UGArden. By helping weed we are also helping Campus Kitchen receive lettuce in the future. I also communicated with my preceptor verbally that I was still missing the metrics from the shift she performed Tuesday. I also discussed the difficulties when delivering to Bigger Vision last week. Last week it seemed that Bigger Vision did not want the meals we had made because the day center was closed. I confirmed with her that Bigger Vision did not discuss ending food donations from Campus Kitchen.

On (10/7/26) I went to the Covenant Church in Athens and worked with Anna from Campus Kitchen. Thankfully we had a lot of volunteers show up to help cook. The recipe for Thursday was simple and just roasted vegetables, chicken, and rice. I helped make sure everyone had a task and that the volunteers were cutting the vegetables safely. I also fetched any tools the volunteers needed for their tasks and answered any questions they had. Because there we so many volunteers today the cooking went by fairly fast and we had time to write individual notes on the food containers. Once we were done I took the 50 meals to Bigger Vision and planned to discuss with them if they would like to continue receiving meals. Once I arrived they confirmed with me that although they were short staffed and that the daycenter was closed they would like to continue receiving meals for now. I made sure that the person I talked to had the email for our coordinator, so that if they ever needed to stop receiving meals they could contact Campus Kitchen.

Later I went to UGArden and delivery any meals that the Shift Leaders were unable to deliver to throughout the week, as well as the two clients who’s delivery day was moved to Thursday. I looked through the meals and made sure that the Shift Leader who helps me on Thursdays would have everything she needed when delivering to the client I would assign to her. I try and give her the clients she has delivered to before so she doesn’t have to figure out where to go. I have been giving her one client that routinely has not answered the door. I may need to give her another client in the future so that the volunteer work is more rewarding. She also contacted me later about issues she had when delivering to one of her clients. She said she couldn’t find the house and only saw construction. I told her that if she wasn’t able to find it she could put the meals back into the UGArden fridge. I relayed this information to Campus Kitchen and discussed talking to the Monday delivery driver who typically delivers to this client.

Lastly I performed my duty of reporting the daily SLCF summary. I sent in the summary to Jules and reporting on what items were low, Shift Leaders who deserved a shoutout, and any concerns/issues from the shift.

On (10/8/26) I continued sending in my daily SLCF summary. On Friday I sent the summary from Thursday and reported the issues that one of our Thursday delivery drivers faced. I also reported the continued difficulties some of the shift leaders faced when using the scale. The scale has been complained about for several weeks and the batteries were changed last week. The scale may need to be replaced.

Summary of Week 8

This week I continued completing the daily SLCF summaries, addressed any issues regarding responses, and communicated issues regarding the scale and deliveries. On Wednesday I led a bagpacking shift where I guided volunteers when preparing meals and assisted them in completing barn chores. I also delivered meals to clients as well as Bigger Vision and confirmed that Bigger Vision would like for Campus Kitchen to continue sending meals. I also ensured that Bigger Vision had Campus Kitchen contact information if they need to address any concerns or changes. I also helped coordinate volunteer responsibilities and made sure that volunteer tasks were being performed properly. I also reported information such as low items and concerns.
